Professor Toshiyuki Kobayashi was awarded the Humbold Research Award in the field of Mathematics, for his opening up of several new fields in mathematics, including the theory of discrete breaking symmetries, discontinuous group theory beyond the classical Riemannian setting, and the theory of visible action on complex manifolds.
