Toshiyuki KOBAYASHI Receives the 67th Fujihara Award

Toshiyuki KOBAYASHI, Professor at the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, The University of Tokyo, has been awarded the 67th Fujihara Award.

He is recognized for his outstanding contributions to "Mathematical Analysis of Infinite-Dimensional Symmetries."

Among his many significant achievements, the following stand out:
- He conducted groundbreaking work laying the foundations of the branching laws of infinite-dimensional representations.
- He brought about a paradigm shift in the global geometric study of locally homogeneous spaces.
- He developed the theory of visible actions on complex manifolds and established a unified framework for multiplicity-free representations.
- He carried out pioneering work in global analysis motivated by minimal representations.
- He established foundational theories for the construction and classification of symmetry-breaking operators.

Professor KOBAYASHI has received numerous prestigious honors, including the MSJ Spring Prize (1999), the Inoue Prize for Science, the Humboldt Research Award, the Medal with Purple Ribbon, Fellowship of the American Mathematical Society (since 2017), and an honorary doctorate from Reims University (France).
