Abstract:
We consider the two dimensional electron system under a constant magnetic field perpendicular to the plane, and present a simple definition of the Hall conductivity which is the non-diagonal component of the conductivity tensor. To calculate the Hall conductivity, we adopt the adiabatic approximation and derive that it is equal to the Chern character modulo the order of any inverse power of the adiabatic parameter. Finite temperature correction is also considered and estimated to be exponentially small.
