Our Policy and History
The policy of the Journal of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo is to publish original research papers in the mathematical sciences including pure and applied mathematics. Further, it is also our policy to publish the journal in a paper format as well as electronically on the Internet. Precisely speaking, manuscripts older than one year are made available on our home page in a PDF format.
As of 1998, the J.Math.Sci.Univ.Tokyo (in abbreviation) consists of four issues annually. Prior to that time, the journal was published in three issues annually.
In April 1992, Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences was established as a new institution of the University of Tokyo. The previous two Departments of Mathematics of the University, one belonging to the Faculty of Science and the other to the College of Arts and Sciences, became independent of the respective upper institutions and joined the new institution. The J.Math.Sci.Univ.Tokyo was started on this occasion. It is a continuation of two preceding journals:
JOURNAL OF THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE, THE UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO, SECTION IA, MATHEMATICS (1925-1993),
and the mathematical part of
SCIENTIFIC PAPERS OF THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES, THE UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO (1951-).

Notice to Authors
As stated in our policy, the manuscript should be an original research paper. Further, the authors are requested to give permission, in advance, to make the full manuscript available on our home page. In spite of this permission, the authors will retain the copyright of the manuscript, including any figures, tables, and/or program source codes that it may contain.
The expected language is principally English. (Manuscripts written in other languages will be accepted only special occasions.)
All manuscripts and editorial correspondence should be addressed to the following, not to the MARUZEN Office.

We accept submissions by e-mail. Please send a PDF file to journal@ms.u-tokyo.ac.jp. Each submission will be promptly acknowledged. If you send a manuscript by postal mail to the above address, please include two copies, preferably with your e-mail address and/or FAX number.
Proofs
Authors receive only one set of proofs for corrections. In case of joint authors, the first author receives the proof unless otherwise requested by the authors. Excessive alterations will be charged to the author.Offprints
One hundred offprints of each paper will be supplied free of charge.
Technical Instruction
Manuscripts prepared in AMS-LATEX (LATEX2e) will be ideal for us; we recommend these style and sample files of Jounal of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo. If you use other dialect of TEX, Please indicate which one is used (Plain TEX, LaTEX, etc.) on the first page of the manuscript. Upon acceptance of the paper for publication, the author(s) will be requested to send the TEX-source file to the editorial board.
Regardless the authors' TEX-style file, the TEX-source file will be modified by us to fit our journal's style. For example, the title letters are in boldfaced italics, non-boldfaced "THEOREM, LEMMA,...", the reference number of an equation is placed at the begining of the line, and the style of the references is to have a different order for the name and surname for the first author than for the other authors ( for example, KATAOKA K., and T. FUNAKI, etc.). So in order to avoid a large change of the layout, please obey the following rules:
- One line should include about 70 small letters. One page should include about 36 lines.
The style (\documentclass[12pt, a4paper]{amsart} ) is close to our style.- The reference number of each equation should be placed at the begining of the line.
- The TeX source should be free spelling errors. Use spell check programs if necessary. Some suggested spell check programs are Ispell (for Windows), and Excalibur (for MacOS).
If you use a typewriter, prepare your manuscript with double line spacing, and with large margins. Please carefully distinguish similar letters, 0(zero) and o(ou), or 1(one) and l(el), for example.
Each paper submitted should be accompanied by a short Abstract and by its 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification Numbers. (Example: Primary 35F25; Secondary 35A10, 35A07) Use
\subjclass[2000]{Primary ****; Secondary *****.}
Also we would appreciate receiving a running title in advance.
