Abstract: We obtain purely algebraic criteria for fixed point properties on Banach spaces under relative fixed point properties. These are strengthenings of Shalom's algebraization in ICM 2006, in the sense of that we completely remove any form of "bounded generation" assumption. Several applications may, in addition, be discussed.

Abstract: In this talk, we give the first example of a minimal ambient nuclear C*-algebra of a non-nuclear C*-algebra. In fact, we show a stronger result: our ambient nuclear C*-algebra has no proper intermediate C*-algebras. A key ingredient of the construction is a new result on Cantor dynamical systems of infinite free product groups. The Powers argument also plays a central role.
