Abstract: In his thesis, Nikolai Durov develops an algebro-geometric theory based on commutative algebraic monads. The theory generalizes conventional scheme theory and provides a framework in which the Arakelov-theoretic "one-point compactification" of Spec Z can be constructed as a projective limit. In this talk, we give an overview of Durov's theory and examine the Grothendieck groups of certain generalized schemes.
