Foreword to the Japanese Journal of Mathematics

Sadayoshi Kojima (President of the Mathematical Society of Japan)

Japanese Journal of Mathematics (JJM) founded in 1924 is the oldest mathematics journal in Japan with continuous publication. It had been published for research articles by the Science Council of Japan until 1974. Then it was renewed in 1975 as a New Series edited and published for possibly long research papers by the Kinokuniya Company Ltd in collaboration with several university periodicals in Japan.

From this first volume of the Third Series in 2006, JJM is published by the Mathematical Society of Japan (MSJ) in cooperation with Springer. It becomes to be the first official journal ofMSJ for authoritative survey articles exclusively.

Thanks to tremendous effort for making JJM reborn by considerable number of people, its third series is now launched with peer-review process. We are extremely proud of announcing its debut, and would like to welcome contributions of survey articles which promote mathematical research significantly.
