Gömböc

GOMBOC1877s.jpg

The Gömböc is the first known convex, homogeneous object which has just one stable and one unstable equilibrium point. The existence of such object was conjectured by Vladimir Igorevich Arnold in 1995. The Gömböc was invented in 2006 by Hungarian scientists Gábor Domokos and Péter Várkonyi. The present Gömböc 1877 has been manufactured for the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo. We would like to thank Gábor Domokos and Péter Várkonyi for this remarkable object. Thanks are also due to László Székelyhidi Jr who has arranged this project. We also would like to thank Mr Otto Albrecht for his financial support.
